Sunshine operates community-based residential homes serving girls and young women with a range of ages, strengths, experiences, and placement needs.
Our girls’ homes provide welcoming environments where residents receive consistent supervision, predictable routines, and supportive adult guidance. Each home maintains clear expectations while recognizing the individuality of every resident.
Girls are encouraged to take an active role in their daily routines, household responsibilities, personal goals, and preparation for the future.
Daily Life in Our Girls’ Homes
Residents may participate in:
- Structured morning and evening routines
- Age-appropriate household responsibilities
- Personal organization and care of belongings
- Family-style meals and shared household activities
- School and homework routines
- Recreational and community activities
- Birthday and holiday celebrations
- Opportunities to make age-appropriate choices
- Preparation for increasing independence
The goal is to create an environment that feels residential rather than institutional. Girls are given opportunities to participate in everyday home and community life while receiving the level of supervision appropriate to their age and individual plan.
Recognizing Each Young Person as an Individual
Sunshine does not define girls by the circumstances that brought them into care.
Staff are expected to recognize each resident’s interests, abilities, culture, personality, and potential. Girls are supported in developing responsibility, communicating their needs, building confidence, and working toward meaningful personal goals.
Placement in a particular home is based on available capacity, the ages and needs of the current residents, and the ability of the home to appropriately support the child.
