Back to School: Starting the Academic Year Off Right
A new school year brings fresh opportunities, new classrooms, new teachers, and new goals. At Sunshine Residential Homes, we want every child and young person in our care to begin the year feeling prepared, supported, and excited about what lies ahead.
Each year, Sunshine celebrates the start of school with our Back to School event, bringing children from across our homes together for a day centered on education, encouragement, and fun. Every child receives a brand-new backpack filled with the school supplies they need, including notebooks, folders, pencils, and other classroom essentials.
But for us, a backpack represents much more than school supplies. Walking into the first day of school with everything you need can create a sense of confidence, belonging, and readiness. We want every child at Sunshine to feel just as prepared and excited for the first day as any other student walking through the school doors.
The event also gives our young people an opportunity to reconnect, celebrate the beginning of a new academic year, and talk about their goals for the months ahead. Our teams reinforce positive study habits, organization, time management, attendance, and the importance of asking for help when it is needed.
That support continues long after the first day of school.
Throughout the academic year, Sunshine remains actively involved in each child’s educational progress. From tutoring and academic assistance to GED support, school activities, career exploration, college opportunities, scholarships, and celebrating graduations, education is an important part of helping young people build a strong foundation for their future.
We are especially proud of what our young people continue to accomplish. For four consecutive years, 100% of Sunshine’s eligible 8th and 12th grade students have graduated, a reflection of their determination and the encouragement they receive from the people surrounding them.
Whether a child is entering elementary school, beginning high school, preparing for graduation, or considering what comes next, we want them to know that their education matters and that there are people cheering for their success.
At Sunshine Residential Homes, Back to School is more than an annual event. It is the beginning of another year of learning, achievement, new experiences, and possibilities.
