OUR MISSION

Going above and beyond to provide children with the care, support, and opportunities they need to heal, thrive, and build brighter futures.

OUR VISION

To set the standard for residential care in Arizona by creating safe, nurturing homes where children and youth feel valued, siblings remain connected, and every young person has the opportunity to grow, thrive, and build a brighter future.

KIDS FIRST

The children and youth of Sunshine Residential Homes are at the heart of every decision we make. We are committed to creating safe, welcoming environments where each young person feels valued, accepted, and supported as they heal, grow, and build a brighter future.

HISTORY

Sunshine Residential Homes was founded in 1996 by Simon Kottoor, MSW, with a vision to provide safe, compassionate, and high-quality residential care for children and youth in foster care. For nearly three decades, Sunshine has served tens of thousands of young people across Arizona while remaining committed to dignity, stability, meaningful connections, and brighter futures.

HELPING CHILDREN

Sunshine is supported by a dedicated team committed to providing nurturing, compassionate, and consistent care to more than 300 children and youth entrusted to us.

TUTORING & MENTORING

Sunshine works with internal staff, community partners, and local schools to connect children and youth with tutoring, mentoring, and academic support when needed.

SERVICES & MORE

Sunshine children and youth may be connected with services that support healing, stability, and growth. These services may include counseling, medication management, educational supports, tutoring, mentoring, family therapy and support, sibling visits, and other services coordinated through their child welfare team, behavioral health providers, schools, and community partners.

KEYS TO SUCCESS

Sunshine encourages and celebrates children and youth for academic progress, strong effort, and positive school engagement. Through tutoring, school support, and consistent encouragement, we help youth stay connected to their education and future goals. Each quarter, Sunshine hosts celebration events with food, recognition, certificates, prizes, and activities to honor their success and motivate continued growth.

LIFE SKILLS TRAINING

Sunshine supports teens in building age-appropriate life skills that may help prepare them for greater independence. This may include guidance with personal finance, daily living routines, job searches, interview preparation, school and vocational goals, fitness and nutrition, and career exploration. Consistent with each youth’s service plan, case plan, and Reasonable and Prudent Parenting Standards, our goal is to provide structure, encouragement, and real-world support as youth prepare for adulthood, family-like settings, or independent living when appropriate.
