Sunshine Residential Homes is rooted in more than three decades of service to children, youth, and families across Arizona. Built on a foundation of faith, compassion, and commitment, Sunshine reflects the vision of its founders, Simon and Elizabeth Kottoor, whose dedication helped shape a mission focused on safety, stability, dignity, and supportive care for children during some of the most important transitions of their lives.
Humble Beginnings
Thirty years ago, Simon and Elizabeth Kottoor began this work from the comfort of their own home, guided by a deep sense of purpose and a vision to provide quality care for children in need. What started as a small, heartfelt mission has grown into a longstanding child welfare organization serving tens of thousands of children over the years, employing more than 250 dedicated team members, and operating nearly 38 locations throughout Maricopa County, primarily in the West Valley.
A Touch of Divinity
It’s no coincidence that Sunshine is drenched in compassionate undertones. Simon and Elizabeth are devout Catholics, and their faith has played an integral role in shaping the core values of Sunshine Residential Homes. Elizabeth’s connection to humanitarian work has even divine roots; her parents’ house in India was once the starting point for the charitable works of Saint Teresa. The spirit of selflessness that Mother Teresa embodied seems to have left an indelible impression on Elizabeth and her work at Sunshine.
